The Nissan Frontier PRO-4X is a truck often overlooked but it has great potential. It comes with a 3.8L V8 that’s good for 310 HP. It can be a great daily driver while having the ability to tow and haul your gear.
But like any factory-fresh vehicle, it has lots of room for improvement. Thanks to the aftermarket support, you can mod your Frontier in any way you want. You can turn it into anything from a more capable daily to an off-road-ready rig. Aftermarket is strong, but you want to know the best part? Being a Nissan, the Frontier has a host of upgrades straight from the manufacturer’s official Motorsports brand NISMO.

NISMO Axis Wheels
Axis wheels give the Frontier a tougher setup right out of the box. They come in a 17x7.5 ET30 size for 265/70/17 tires, or a Beadlock 17x8.5 ET20 version for the same fitment. Both are load rated at 1,950 lbs, higher than factory spec, and meet SAE J2530 standards. Each one comes with a NISMO center cap.
The Beadlock version is the real deal. It’s the same wheel that carried the Forsberg Racing Frontier to a first-place finish at the 2023 NORRA 500. If you want wheels that are proven in competition and solid for the trail, these are it.
NISMO Off-Road Suspension Lift Kit
The NISMO suspension lift kit gives the Frontier a tougher stance while adding clearance for bigger tires. It uses a 1.5-inch front strut spacer and a 1.0-inch rear axle lift block to level the truck and improve fitment without overdoing it. Extended leaf spring u-bolts and aluminum bump stop extension plates are included to keep the lift balanced front to rear.
Built from ¼-inch steel with stamped top plates, the kit is made to handle abuse. The hardware is grade 10.9 with a zinc finish to resist corrosion, so it’s reliable even in harsh conditions. Designed specifically for the Frontier, NISMO's lift kit makes the truck look more aggressive while still keeping the ride smooth enough for daily use.
NISMO Off-Road High Overlanding Rack
NISMO’s overlanding rack makes the Frontier more versatile for hauling. It comes in two different heights and has plenty of mounting points for tents, gear, or recovery tools, while keeping the third brake light clear. Made in the USA, it uses high-strength steel with a powder coat finish.
Capacity is solid: 1,200 lbs static and 750 lbs dynamic. That means it can hold a rooftop tent when parked and still carry heavy gear while driving. Strong but not overly heavy, it’s a rack that does the job without getting in the way.
NISMO Off-Road Rooftop Tent
NISMO’s rooftop tent turns the Frontier into a ready-to-go camper. It mounts on the NISMO overlanding rack or any rack with solid crossbars, sets up in about ten minutes, and sleeps two people comfortably.
Made from rip-stop polyester canvas with three mesh windows and a rainfly, it handles weather without issue. Inside, it comes with a memory foam mattress and washable cover. At 132 lbs with a 600 lb weight rating, it’s built to last and easy to pack away when the trip is done.

Better Tires for Off-Roading
Not all parts are supplied by the official manufacturer when it comes to modding. So you still have to get out and shop aftermarket. One of those parts are tires. Goodyear, BF Goodrich, or other reputable brands have all great M/T or A/T tires to choose from for your build.
Keep in mind that M/Ts are great for the most rugged terrains, but sacrifice highway comfort. A/Ts are a great middle ground if you still want to have peace of mind on the road without losing the off-road capability except for the roughest terrains.
